Margaret Jean Owenby

September 4, 1936 — September 2, 2020

Margaret Jean Owenby, of Andrews, passed away at her home on September 2, 2020, just two days shy of her 84th Birthday. She was born on September 4, 1936 in Flower Branch, Georgia, to the late Flonnie Daniel Bennett and Tressie Lucille Hughes Bennett.

Margaret had retired after working on many different public jobs: from Birch’s Drugstore, the Andrews Hospital, to the Dollar General, but Margaret’s favorite and most important job was taking care of her home and her family. Whether it was taking long countryside drives with her husband, spending time with her children, cooking for her grandchildren or playing with her great-children, she loved spending time with family. Margaret was also an avid reader, loved working outside in her yard, splitting wood with her husband, and sitting on her front porch swing listening to nature.

Margaret was preceded in death by her father Flonnie Daniel Bennett, mother Tressie Lucille Hughes Bennett, Brothers Paul Arnold Bennett and Farrell Daniel Bennett, Sisters Flonnie Lucille Bennett, Hazel Christine Tumlin, Phoebee Irene Vickers, and six half brothers and sisters.

Margaret is survived by her husband of 28 years, Timothy Owenby, son Jimmy Hyde and wife Carolyn, and daughter Janet Davis and husband Alan; Eight grandchildren, Brandon Hyde and wife Cassie, Kristia Gaither, Brittany Ledford and husband Tyler, Travis Yonce and wife Tiffany, Jessie Yonce, Damen Bevins, Damien Davis and Daniel Davis; along with Eight Great-Grandchildren and many Neices and Nephews that she dearly loved.

The family will receive close friends and family at Red Marble Baptist Church, Saturday, September 19, 2020, from 1:00 – 2:45 pm, with a Memorial Service at 3:00pm. The Rev. Eugene Taylor will be officiating with special singing from Margaret’s nephew Donald Vickers accompanied by her great-niece and great-nephew; Lacey and Jimmy Cochran; the Smoky Mountain Gospel Singers, and Sonny & Margaret Reighard, accompanied by Jeannean Wilson.
